Introducing the SCS Alumni Group
Dear SCS Alumni Parents and Students,
The Sonoma Charter School has just created an alumni association for the families and students that have attended this wonderful school over the past 17 years. We are proud of the education it has offered our children and the community it has created for all of us. We want to celebrate the gift this school has given to us all and ensure that this gift continues for future generations.
In the midst of a tumultuous economy and shrinking state and federal financial support for education, the Charter School has consistently provided a well-rounded, high quality education for its students. State budget cutbacks have had a significant impact on our school budget. Budget projections for the 2011/2012 school year paint a bleak picture. What IS clear is that funding will not increase. We are being faced with deciding which is the least unpalatable of many unpalatable cuts to programs and personnel.
It is very clear that in order to continue to offer the many programs we were able to offer your child when they attended the Charter School, we must find additional sources of funding. Consistent funding.
Our teachers still believe in the mission of the Charter School, to consider the individual child and their needs in their education, and they have a strong desire to see that mission continue.
Many students who have attended the Charter School were inspired and encouraged by the art, music, drama and Spanish programs we have been able to offer. Perhaps your child was one of them.
Many students who have attended the Charter School were able to be successful learners because they received individual attention from a teacher or from a committed teaching assistant in a small class setting. Perhaps your child was one of them.
Many students who have attended the Charter School learned how to delve deeply into new subjects from the many projects in the upper grades, or from the individualized tasks, and the Montessori-based approach in the lower grades. Perhaps your child was one of them.
If so, please help us provide the education we made available to you and your children available to the current generation of children attending the school.
